What it’s like
Pick a blank piece of pottery, paint it however you fancy, and come back in a fortnight to collect it fired and food safe.
You choose a piece, a mug, a side plate, a little ornament, and sit down with paints, stencils and sponges to make it your own. Nobody checks your artistic credentials at the door. Staff say plenty of their nicest pieces come from people who swear they can't draw, and there are enough stamps and stencils around to back that up if your painting skills are more enthusiastic than precise.
The catch is the wait. Whatever you paint gets fired in the kiln and takes around two weeks to come back, so this isn't an instant-gratification craft session, it's plant a seed, then walk away, then remember to collect it fortnight later. Turn up outside the Saturday and school holiday rush of 11am to 4pm if you can, because that's when queues build and you might get asked to come back another time.
Younger visitors are properly catered for, from handprint sessions for babies up to older kids building and stuffing their own teddy bear or getting neon face paint done. Daytime sessions are walk-in, no booking needed, and you can paint as many pieces as you like in one sitting since the studio time covers the whole visit and each piece is priced on its own. There's a kids menu alongside sandwiches and paninis, and high chairs for the smallest ones.
Birthday parties run for two hours and start from £300 for up to ten children, food included, with themes stretching from pottery and clay building to slime and Harry Potter. Evenings run later on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 10pm, but you'll need to book ahead for those, along with private events and workshops. Parking's easy enough, with a few car parks a five-minute walk away, and the train station isn't far either.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book?
Not for daytime visits, you can just walk in. Evenings, private events and workshops need booking ahead though.
How much does it cost?
It's priced per piece rather than per person. A side plate runs £24, a dinner plate £26, and smaller ornamental bits start from £16.
Is it any good for a baby or toddler?
They do handprint sessions for tiny babies and there are high chairs and child-friendly paints around for younger ones too.
How long does a session take?
On busy days you get an allocated two-hour sitting. Quieter times you can generally take your time.
When do we get the pottery back?
Roughly two weeks, and they'll text when it's ready. They only hold onto it for two weeks after that text before it gets cleared out, so don't dawdle.
What's the best time to collect?
Avoid 11am to 4pm on Saturdays and school holidays if you can, that's when it gets busy enough for a 20-minute wait or a request to come back later.
What food is on offer?
Cold sandwiches, warm paninis, cakes and a kids menu during the day, plus coffee, hot chocolate and milkshakes. Evenings switch to a different menu with pizza and bar snacks.
Can I paint more than one thing?
As many as you want in one visit. Studio time covers the whole sitting, each piece just gets priced separately.
What if my piece breaks in the kiln?
You get a gift voucher for the value of it so you can come back and paint it again.
Do you do birthday parties?
Yes, two hours for up to ten kids from £300, food included, with extra kids at £30 each up to sixteen. Themes range from slime and pottery to Harry Potter and K-pop.
Is there parking nearby?
A few car parks within a five-minute walk, Portland Road and Buckingham Road among them.
Can you handle a bigger group?
Groups of 40 plus are regular for them, though they'd rather you booked ahead for anything that size.
