What it’s like
Thirty-six lanes of ten-pin bowling plus an arcade, AR darts and clay target shooting under one roof.
Bowling is the obvious draw here, and with 36 lanes there's usually room even when it's busy. Each game is ten frames, two balls a frame unless you strike, and shoe hire is included in the price so you're not scrambling to find a spare pair in a size 6. When the bowling's done there's an arcade with video games and pool tables to soak up the loose change, plus AR darts and clay target shooting if you fancy something a bit different from the usual lane and pins routine.
Pricing is straightforward rather than cheap: £4 for an adult most of the time, £3 for students with ID, jumping later on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. There's no booking required for a casual game, which is handy if you just fancy turning up, though weekends are when it gets busy so don't expect to walk straight onto a lane at peak times.
Food comes from the on-site Barcelos flame-grilled chicken restaurant, with a proper kids' menu alongside burgers, pizza and wings, and a licensed bar next door for the grown-ups. If you've got dietary requirements, they say you're welcome to bring your own home-prepared food rather than gamble on the allergen list.
Birthday parties are clearly a big part of what they do. £16.50 a child gets a game of bowling, a meal including pizza, unlimited squash, balloons, free shoe hire and a party host, with a minimum of six children. It's not the cheapest party option going, but having the game, food and host all sorted for you does take the faff out of organising one yourself.
