What it’s like

Weekly sections for ages 4 to 18 covering everything from first campfires to leading their own expeditions.

This is a scout group split into sections by age, so what your child actually does changes a fair bit as they move through it. The youngest ones, Squirrels, are about playing and learning outdoors together. Beavers step things up to trying new things and making friends, while Cubs get into mastering new skills and having proper adventures.

By the time they hit Scouts, the site talks about exploring the world and challenging yourself, and Explorers is pitched as taking the lead and embracing change. That's a decent arc for a young person: you start off having fun outside and end up being the one organising things for the younger kids.

With ages 4 right up to 18 covered, this is a long-term commitment rather than a one-off day out. The obvious thing to save for later is watching your own child move from being led around by older Scouts to leading the Squirrels themselves.

Because there's no booking link listed, getting your child started here is likely a matter of getting in touch directly rather than signing up online on the spot.

Need to know

Best for
4 to 18, with older teens taking on more of a leadership role
  • Sections are age-banded, so your child moves up as they grow rather than staying in one group for years
  • Explorers is pitched around leadership, so older teens are given more responsibility rather than less
