Observatories & Planetariums in Newcastle
Newcastle doesn't have a planetarium of its own, but a trip out to Washington gets you something better on a clear night. Sunderland Astronomical Society runs free evenings there with telescope viewing, talks and workshops, set up away from city lights so you actually get a proper dark sky to look through. There's not much to choose between here yet, since it's the one option, but it does the basics well: it costs nothing, there's free parking, and you can reach it by public transport if you'd rather not drive. It suits older children who can sit through a talk and stay up past dark more than toddlers, and it's an outdoor, weather-dependent evening rather than a wet-day fallback. Check what's on before you go, since sessions tend to be planned around actual clear skies.
