Free exhibition of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints shown alongside Wirral artworks they inspired.
The Williamson's own collection of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints goes on show, featuring work by major names of the period including Hiroshige and Hokusai. The prints are known for their flat perspectives, high vantage points and bold use of colour, qualities that had a strong influence on European art at the time. Alongside the Ukiyo-e prints, the gallery displays local Wirral artworks that were shaped by this style, giving a sense of how artists on the Wirral were in dialogue with work coming from across the world. Entry is free and the exhibition runs for a full year, from 4 February 2026 to 6 February 2027, during normal gallery opening hours.
