James Goldman's darkly comic play about the Plantagenet royal family at war, set at Christmas 1183.
The People's Theatre presents The Lion in Winter, James Goldman's sharp and darkly funny play set over Christmas 1183. Eleanor of Aquitaine, once queen and now prisoner, is released to join King Henry II and their sons, setting off a dangerous game of power, manipulation and deception within the fractured Plantagenet family. It's a gripping, wickedly comic portrait of a family at war with itself, performed in the Studio. Seating in the Studio is unallocated, so tickets show as a numbered square rather than a seat number. Tickets are £20, with a concession price of £16.50 available for seniors receiving Pension Credit, children and young people aged 16 and under, students and unwaged patrons; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of 10 or more booking on the same date and in the same transaction get a 10% discount. The Studio is on the ground floor and fully wheelchair accessible, though latecomers cannot be admitted and there's no re-entry once the performance has begun.
