Parks & Playgrounds in Edinburgh
If your idea of a park involves actual hills, Holyrood Park is the one. It's right in Edinburgh, about a kilometre from the centre, and it's free to wander any time, day or night. You get proper volcanic crags to scramble over, wide open grass for kicking a ball about, and paths that suit a determined toddler or a teenager who wants a proper climb. There's only the one park listed here at the moment. Holyrood has toilets, a picnic area and it's dog friendly, which covers most of what you'd want for a few hours outdoors. It's outdoor only, no shelter if the weather turns, so pack for that. Beyond that, it's simply worth knowing it's there and it costs nothing.
