Beaches & Coast in Brighton
Brighton's own seafront is shingle, so for sand and rock pools you need to look a bit further along the coast or inland. Kingston Beach, right by Shoreham-by-Sea, is free and good for rock pooling and a swim, though parking is limited so go early if you can. For proper sand and a lake to go with it, there's Ruislip Lido Beach, a much longer trip out to Ruislip, with woodland walks and craft sessions, though the splash pad and fishing are both shut for now. If you want a quick, cheap outing, Kingston Beach costs nothing and suits families happy to potter about the rock pools. If you're making a full day of it, Ruislip Lido has parking, toilets and public transport links, which makes the distance easier to swallow, and the woodland walks give older children somewhere to properly stretch their legs while younger ones stick closer to the water.
