If you're picturing paddling pools dotted round the city centre, Preston's actual splash options are a bit different. Out at Leyland there's West Lancs K9 Splash & Hydro, a heated indoor pool from £35 where it's your dog doing the swimming, kitted out with a wetsuit and float harness, not the kids. For an actual family splash, it's a drive out to Blackpool for Sandcastle Waterpark, an indoor tropical setup with 18 slides, a play structure and pools held at 84 degrees for ages 0 and up. Sandcastle is the one to book ahead for, with baby change, a changing places facility and a cafe on site, useful if you're making a full day of it regardless of weather. Prices start from £15. There's nothing free or outdoor listed nearby, so this is one where you plan the trip rather than pop out on a whim. Toddlers are well catered for at Sandcastle; the dog pool is a novelty day out for a very different member of the family.
