What it’s like

A free park with a splash pool for summer, a play area to burn an hour, and a quiet garden if you need five minutes' peace.

There's a toddler paddling pool that opens up in the summer months, which is the sort of thing you don't realise you need until it's a hot Tuesday and the kids have got nothing to do. Alongside it there's a destination play area, so you've got somewhere for them to burn through before or after a paddle.

It's free to get in and parking's free too, at the leisure centre next door, which makes this an easy one to say yes to on a whim. There's no booking involved, you just turn up. A café on site means you're not having to pack snacks for every visit, though you might still want to bring your own for a long afternoon.

If you fancy a quieter moment, there's a Garden of Remembrance for some contemplation, away from the splashing and shouting. It's a nice contrast to have in the same park, and it means the day out doesn't have to be all noise.

There's also a weekly parkrun here, so if you're into that sort of thing, you could make a morning of it and stick around for the play area afterwards. It's a straightforward park with a few good reasons to visit, rather than one big headline attraction.

  • The Garden of Remembrance is a quieter spot if the play area gets a bit much.

You just turn up whenever suits.
