What it’s like
A guided wizard-themed walk round York's streets, about an hour and a quarter of stops, stories and a photo at the end.
This one's a walking tour with a wizarding theme, done as a proper alternative to York's ghost walks. No scares, no ghost stories, just a guide leading you round the city's streets with stops along the way, and the option to buy a Wizard Wand Kit if your child wants a prop for the occasion. It finishes with photos, which is a nice full stop on the whole thing rather than an afterthought.
It runs around an hour and 15 minutes, which feels about right for the age range they're aiming at. The site says it works for ages 3 to 10, though they're honest that 5 to 10 is really the sweet spot, or an older kid who's still deep into the wizarding world and up for some silliness. Under-3s in pushchairs go free, but everyone aged 3 and up needs their own ticket, so a family of wizards adds up.
Booking matters here. Tours run on selected days and times rather than on demand, and the site is upfront that they fill up quickly in the holidays, so this isn't one to leave until the morning of. Private tours can be arranged for birthdays, schools, or groups like cubs and brownies if you'd rather have the guide to yourselves.
York's cobbles do come into it. There are no steps on the route and wheelchair users are welcome, but the ground itself is uneven in places, which is just York being York. Worth factoring in if you've got a buggy that doesn't love bumps.
