What it’s like

Farm animals, keeper talks and tractor-trailer rides around the site, open daily from 10 to 5.

This is a proper hands-on farm day. Kids get to meet and handle the animals, join in with keeper experiences and animal encounters, and there are play activities dotted around the site to break up the walking. The tractor-trailer ride is the bit most kids will bang on about afterwards, a slow loop round the site that beats trudging everywhere on foot.

It's open every day, 10am to 5pm, so you've got a full seven hours if you want them, though most families won't need that long to see everything. Booking is required, so sort that before you set off rather than turning up and hoping.

One thing to flag if you're going over the festive period: Miniville is shut for a makeover, so that bit of the site won't be available. Birthday parties and group bookings are both on offer if you're thinking of doing something bigger than a normal day out, and there's a gift shop for the inevitable end-of-visit purchase.
