What it’s like
400 acres of footpaths, bridleways and a sensory garden to wander, with the manor house itself saved for ticketed open days.
The estate is the main event here. You've got 400 acres to walk, proper footpaths and bridleways, and a Sensory Garden that's more about slowing down and noticing things than ticking off a checklist. It suits a family happy to potter rather than one chasing a specific ride or activity, and there's no set trail, so you can make the visit as long or as short as your legs and the weather allow.
The Manor House and the walled gardens are the bit you can't just wander into. Those are pre-booked event only, so if it's the house itself your kids are curious about, you'll need to check the events calendar and book a guided tour or an open day rather than just turning up. It's a faff if you're expecting a normal country house visit, but it does mean the events feel a bit more special when you get one.
Bring a picnic and use the tables by the barn, or find a spot on the grounds, just leave the barbecue at home since open fires and barbecues aren't allowed anywhere on the estate. The Tiger Lily coffee van in the barn courtyard is open to anyone, no event ticket needed, for hot drinks, snacks and cakes, though there's no permanent indoor catering if you're after a proper sit-down meal.
Parking is free and there's space for accessible bays on the tarmac, though big events push you out into the overflow fields. Dogs are welcome across the estate and barn courtyard, just not in the house or walled gardens unless they're assistance dogs. If you fancy skipping the car, Horsley train station is about a mile away, roughly a 25 minute walk, and the 479 bus stops seven minutes from the site.

Plan your visit
Is entry free?
Yes, general entry to the estate is free. Booking an event ticket is what gets you into the Manor House and walled gardens.
Do we need to book ahead?
For the estate itself, no. For the Manor House or walled gardens you need to book an event in advance since spaces are limited.
How long should we plan for?
It depends on what you've booked. For a general open day, they recommend setting aside half a day to see the house, gardens and estate properly.
Is there parking?
Parking's free for everyone. Small events use the tarmac area, but for big open days and festivals you might get directed to overflow parking in the fields.
Can we bring a picnic?

What food is available on site?
The Tiger Lily coffee van sets up in the barn courtyard with hot drinks, snacks and cakes, and you don't need an event ticket to use it. There's no permanent indoor café, though.
