What it’s like

Free outdoor play in Stafford with a 7m climbing net, a 5m slide and a splash pad for summer days.

There's a proper climb here before you even get to the fun bit: a 7 metre climbing net and a 5 metre slide that'll have most kids testing their nerve more than once. Add a sand pit with diggers, a trampoline, swings in cradle, flat and group styles, and a wheeled sports bowl for the scooter and bike crowd, and you've got a park that earns its keep without costing a penny to get in.

The splash pad and wet play area are the bit to save for a hot day, quite literally, since the wet play only opens in summer when it hits 20°C or above. There's a sensory raised garden too if you want a quieter corner away from the climbing frame chaos. None of it needs booking and there's no entry fee, so it's an easy one to just turn up to.

The play area runs daily from 10am until an hour before the park closes, and closing times shift a fair bit through the year, from 4:30pm in the depths of winter out to 9pm in high summer. Worth knowing that the whole thing can shut without warning in severe weather, and specifically if the river level rises above the edging boards, so a soggy morning might mean a wasted trip. There's a café on site, toilets, and picnics are allowed if you fancy bringing your own lunch instead. Dogs aren't allowed in the play area itself, and parking is at the nearby Tenterbanks or Doxey Road car parks, or any town centre car park.

  • Wet play only runs in summer at 20°C or above, so don't count on it on a cool day
  • The play area shuts an hour before the park itself, not at the same time
  • Closing times swing a lot across the year, check the season before you plan a late visit
  • River levels can force a closure, so a very wet spell is worth factoring in
