What it’s like

Twenty-three climbing lines and a vertical drop slide indoors, with harnesses fitted for you and sessions running about 75 minutes.

This is climbing sorted into 23 different lines, so a nervous first-timer can pick an easy one while a confident nine-year-old heads for something that actually feels like a challenge. The vertical drop slide is the bit they'll be talking about after, and it's worth the £2.50 add-on if your child likes a proper adrenaline hit at the end of a climbing session rather than a gentle wind-down. Under-4s get their own soft play area, and there are dedicated toddler climbing sessions for ages 2 to 4 if you want to start them early.

A session runs about 75 minutes all told: 15 minutes getting harnessed and briefed, 55 minutes actually climbing, and a few minutes at the end to get the gear off. Turn up 15 minutes early or you'll eat into your own climbing time. Standard tickets are £15.75, dropping to £10.75 off-peak, and there's a family ticket at £57 for one adult and two children that works out better than paying separately. Toddler sessions are £14, or £9.50 off-peak.

Booking is pushed hard here and it's genuinely worth doing, since walk-ups only get in if there's space. Opening hours are a bit of a puzzle in term time: closed Monday to Wednesday, a short Thursday afternoon slot, Friday from half ten, and weekends 9 till 5. School holidays are simpler, Monday to Friday 9:30 to 5. If you fancy joining your child in the arena rather than watching from the side, you'll need to book as a climber yourself unless they're under 7, and only one non-climbing adult is allowed in at a time.

Kit-wise, fully enclosed shoes are non-negotiable, so no crocs or sandals, and jewellery, hats and hooded tops come off before you go in. Parking on site is limited and gets full, though there are free spaces on nearby side roads without restrictions if you're prepared to walk a bit. The café and party rooms are upstairs with no lift, which is a genuine catch if you're pushing a buggy or using a wheelchair, though staff will bring food down for you.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Standard tickets are £15.75, or £10.75 off-peak. A family ticket for one adult and two children is £57, and toddler sessions are £14 (£9.50 off-peak).

Do we need to book?

Booking online is how you secure a spot. Walk-ups are only taken if there's space left, which isn't guaranteed.

How long does a session last?

About 75 minutes in total: 15 minutes for the safety briefing and harness fitting, 55 minutes climbing, and a few minutes to get the harness off at the end.

What age can climb?

Standard sessions are 4 years and up. There are also toddler climbing sessions for ages 2 to 4, and family sessions on Friday and at set weekend slots can include a 2 or 3 year old with a non-climbing adult helping them.

Is there parking?

There's a car park on site but it's limited and fills up, especially on weekdays. There are free spaces on nearby side roads with no restrictions.

What should we wear?

Fully enclosed shoes are required, so no crocs, sandals, boots or heels. Long hair needs to be tied back, and jewellery, hats and hooded tops have to come off before you climb.

Can I climb with my child?

You can, but you'll need to book as a climber yourself unless your child is under 7. Only one non-climbing adult is allowed in the arena at a time to watch.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Most of the centre is on the ground floor with an accessible toilet, but the café and party room are upstairs with stairs only. Staff can bring food orders down for you.

What about the drop slide?

It's an add-on for £2.50 on top of your session ticket, and it's the bit worth saving your child's energy for.

Do you do birthday parties?

Yes, parties start from £17.50 per child, including a free go on the drop slide and a slushie for the birthday child, plus food.

What are the opening hours?

In term time it's closed Monday to Wednesday, open Thursday 2pm to 6:30pm, Friday from 10:30am, and weekends 9am to 5pm. In school holidays it's open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5pm.

Do we need our own equipment?

All the climbing equipment is provided. There are also free small lockers at reception for valuables, and boxes for coats kept behind the desk.
