What it’s like
A pub with a kids' play area and a big beer garden, where two mains come in at £16.45 and nobody minds if you just walk in.
It's a pub first, so the draw for your kids is the children's play area and the outdoor play bits, with a large beer garden attached. You eat, they disappear to the climbing frames, and you get to finish a plate of food while keeping an eye on them. Entry's free, which takes the sting out of a wet Sunday.
The food is standard pub territory and the deals are the reason to pick a day: lunch club at £8.95, three small plates for £15.95, two mains for £16.45. Wednesdays there's a burger and a drink for £9.95, and Sunday roasts are £14.25. Kitchen hours are tighter than the bar, closing at 9pm through the week and 8:30pm on Sunday, so an early tea is the sensible move with smaller kids.
Booking's not essential. They say you can just walk in and booking is only recommended so a table's ready, though big matches are the exception and sports tables get three hours, released if you're 15 minutes late. There's a car park on site, the place is wheelchair accessible, and dogs are welcome on a lead inside and out. A pub quiz runs every Wednesday, and Christmas brings bookable festive menus and Breakfast with Santa, which does take a deposit.
Best for anyone with kids old enough to use the play area unsupervised-ish, and for groups where the adults want a proper sit-down. Under-twos won't get much out of it beyond the garden.
