What it’s like

Hit balls at giant outfield targets from a heated bay, with self-scoring balls and clubs you don't have to bring.

You play from a bay, hitting at big targets on the outfield, and the balls track themselves so nobody has to keep score by hand. Clubs are there to borrow or you can bring your own, and a game is 20 balls per player, which the site reckons takes a group of six about an hour.

It's worth knowing the money works in two parts. You need a membership registered before you can play, and the taster membership is £2 for 30 days, then games are £10 for adults and £8 for juniors on top. So a family of four has a bit of a sting in it if everyone's playing, though the membership with four free games (£28 adults, £23 juniors) works out better if you're going back. Every Tuesday games are half price, and buy one get one free runs daily until 11am outside bank holidays, which is the cheapest way in if you can get there early.

The 3-game package is £18 Monday to Friday between 11am and 5pm, which suits a quieter weekday with a teenager. Booking a bay online is the safer bet at peak times, since the wait for one can stretch to hours and there's a two-hour play limit when it's busy. If you'd rather just turn up, you can buy memberships and games inside before you play. Under-18s can't come in after 8pm on Friday and Saturday, so an evening trip is an adults-only affair.

Food is served to your bay from the sports bar and restaurant, and there's a burger, fries and a beer for £13 on weeknights. In school holidays the Eat, Drink, Play deal is £16 for juniors and £23 for adults Monday to Thursday, though bank holidays are excluded and you can just ask at Guest Services rather than book. Parking is free on site, there are disabled spaces, and access to the bays is step free with a free Accessibility Fast Track if you need to skip the queue.
