What it’s like

Tech-glowing crazy golf with a beer pong hole and a ghost-themed course, best saved for kids seven and up.

Nine holes of glow-in-the-dark mini golf with a twist, the site lists a Beer Pong hole, a ghost-themed Puttman course and something called Ring of Fire, plus a points and prizes system so your round turns into a leaderboard battle. It's built for a bit of showing off between siblings or mates rather than a quiet potter round a garden course.

A round takes about half an hour, which is handy if you've got a seven-year-old with a limited attention span, though the venue is upfront that younger kids can find it tricky and recommends waiting until they're seven. A 9-hole junior ticket is £8.50, adults £11.50, and if you fancy going round more than once there's unlimited golf for £18 (adults) or £15 (juniors) Sunday to Thursday. That's a proper afternoon's entertainment if the kids get the bug, though it does add up fast for a family of four playing more than once.

There's a full bar and restaurant on site doing flatbreads, salads and a kids menu, with vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options covered. Worth knowing it's a nut-free venue, so any birthday cake brought from outside has to be completely nut-free with the ingredient list to hand, or you can just order one from them. Parking is free throughout the Lakeside centre, which takes the sting out of the golf prices a bit.

Under-18s aren't allowed in after 7pm and anyone 12 or under needs an adult with them the whole time, so this isn't a drop-and-shop sort of visit. Cards only, no cash, and payment happens when you book rather than on the day, with cancellations inside 24 hours non-refundable, which is a bit of a faff if plans change last minute.
