What it’s like
Three hangar-style galleries of planes, photographs and wartime stories, weekends only, £3 a child and under-fives free.
This is a small museum where the planes do the talking. You walk in and there's a collection of artefacts, photographs and personal stories laid out across three main displays: Post War, Bomber Command and Battle of Britain. The personal stories are the bit that lands with older kids; a photo of a young pilot with his own handwriting under it says more than a wall of technical labels.
Age-wise, from five upwards is the sweet spot. Under-fives get in free with a paying adult but there isn't a lot here for them, so it's better as a trip for a child who's started asking about the war. Tickets are bought on the door, cash or card, so no booking faff for a normal weekend visit. It's £6 for an adult, £3 for a child aged five to 15, and £15 for a family of two adults and three children. If you're a carer or personal assistant you go free, which is worth knowing before you pay for two adults out of habit.
Open weekends only, 11 to 4, and the site's public opening weekends are on the autumn and winter 2026 calendar across October, November and December dates. Weekdays the place is given over to pre-booked groups and schools, so don't turn up on a Tuesday. There's a café, a gift shop and toilets on the ground floor, and the displays are down there too.
Two catches. There's no lift to the first floor, so if you're with a wheelchair or a buggy you'll be staying on the ground floor, where most areas have ramps. And there's no baby changing. Parking is free but the car park is small and only takes a limited number of vehicles, so a busy weekend could see you hunting. Bus 256 stops at St George's Park, a two minute walk away.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost to get in?
£6 for an adult, £3 for a child aged five to 15. Under-fives are free with a paying adult, and a family ticket for two adults and three children is £15.
Do we need to book?
For a normal weekend, no. Tickets are sold on the door and they take cash or card. Weekdays are pre-booked groups and schools only.
When is it open?
Weekends, 11am to 4pm. The public opening weekends are on the autumn and winter 2026 calendar, with October, November and December dates listed.
Is it good for a four-year-old?
It's a museum of displays and photographs rather than anything hands-on, so from about five upwards works better. Under-fives get in free, so you're not paying for a child who won't get much from it.
What's in it?
Three main galleries, Post War, Bomber Command and Battle of Britain, plus artefacts, photographs and personal stories. There's also a reference library and an education suite.
Is there parking?
Yes, free on-site parking, but it's a small car park with a limited number of spaces, used at your own risk. It's not free on special event days.
Is it accessible for wheelchairs and prams?
Most ground-floor areas have ramps and the displays, café, shop and toilets are all down there. There's no lift to the first floor, so the upper level is out if you're in a wheelchair or pushing a buggy.
Is there anywhere to change a baby?
The site doesn't currently have baby changing facilities.
Is there a café?
One café on the ground floor, plus a gift shop. Cards only, so bring a card rather than cash for the café.
Do carers get in free?
Personal assistants go free, and HAHT members get in free too. Worth mentioning at the door before you pay.
Can I get there by bus?
Bus 256 to St George's Park leaves you a two minute walk away. The 252 runs from Collier Row to Hornchurch.
Can we come on a weekday?
Not for a general visit. Weekdays are only open to pre-booked groups and schools, so weekends are your window.
