What it’s like
Pick your own pumpkin, wander a sunflower field, and let the dog come along too.
You come here to pick pumpkins straight off the patch, and the growing sessions in spring mean you can even plant your own back in April or May before coming back to collect the results. The sunflower and wildflower fields are the other big draw, and they're set up well for photos if that's your thing, though if you just want the shoot without picking anything there's a £5 donation for that.
Entry is £2 for pumpkin picking, with under-5s getting in free, and another £2 covers the sunflower field. It's not a huge outlay for an afternoon out, though the pumpkin growing sessions at £7 a child add up if you've got more than one wanting a go. Weekends from late September through October are when it's open, usually 11am to 3pm, and there's no need to book ahead for the picking itself, just turn up.
The Harvest Moon Café is a converted horsebox, which is a nice touch, and does cakes, brownies, hot chocolate and pumpkin soup. Seating gets tight when it's busy though, so a picnic blanket isn't a bad backup plan since picnics are allowed on the farm. Dogs are welcome too, which is rarer than it should be at these places.
Half term in October brings longer hours, 10am to 4pm, which is worth knowing if you're trying to fit in a proper visit rather than a quick dash before closing. Weather can shift the opening times, so it's the kind of outdoor day where a bit of flexibility helps.
