WHERE

Bridlington

What it’s like

Boat cruises out of Bridlington harbour, including RSPB seabird trips along the cliffs.

Two kinds of trip here, both leaving from the harbour. There's a general cruise round the bay, and there's an RSPB seabird cruise that heads along the coast to look at the cliffs and whatever's nesting on them that season.

The second one's the pick if anyone in your group is into birds or the sort of dramatic chalk cliffs Bridlington does well, rather than just a lap of the bay. Either way, you're on the water rather than walking a deck the whole time, which is no bad thing with kids who'd rather sit and watch the coastline go past than trudge round an exhibition.

It suits a lazy few hours by the harbour more than a tightly timed schedule. Take a jumper even on a warm day, the wind off the sea doesn't care what the forecast said.

Plan your visit

What kind of cruises do they run?

A general boat cruise round the bay, and an RSPB seabird cruise that runs along the coastline to the cliffs. Go for the seabird one if birds and cliffs are the draw rather than just being out on the water.

How long does a trip take?

Long enough to make a proper outing of the harbour rather than a quick dash. Build a bit of slack either side rather than planning it round anything else that day.

Is it OK for young kids?

Being on a boat with a toddler is always a bit of a judgement call on the day, wind and waves included. Older kids who can sit still and watch the water will get more out of it.

Do we need to book ahead?

Turn up at the harbour and see what's running, there's nothing here about needing to book in advance.
