What it’s like
A brunch and pudding spot on the High Road where you turn up and grab a table rather than book ahead.
This is a café built around brunch and puddings rather than a full sit-down menu, so you're looking at pancakes, brunch plates and a cake cabinet rather than roast dinners. It's open every day from 9, and you can just walk in and take a seat for general dining, which takes the stress out of turning up with a hungry toddler in tow.
Afternoon tea is the one thing you do need to sort ahead of time, they ask you to book that in advance rather than chance it on the day. Everything else is first come first served, which is handy on a weekday but worth bearing in mind if you're heading down on a Saturday when tables might take a bit of finding.
Hours shift a little through the year. Weekdays it's 9 to 5, Friday and Saturday they stay open until 6, and Sundays it's back to 5pm. January weekdays close an hour earlier at 4, and on Pancake Day they push right on to 8pm with the kitchen serving until half 7, which makes sense given what's on the menu. Christmas Day and Boxing Day it's shut, New Year's Day is a shorter 11 to 3 window, and Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and Mother's Day all have their own earlier closing times too.
