The Mystery of Banksy – Manchester
SETTING
Indoors
WHERE
Manchester
What it’s like
A walk-through of roughly 200 recreated Banksy pieces, from graffiti to sculpture, in a slick indoor Manchester space.
You turn up in a 30-minute arrival window and spend an hour or so wandering through around 200 recreated Banksy works, graffiti, photographs, sculptures, video pieces and prints on everything from canvas to aluminium and plexiglass. There's a career-tracing video and an audio guide to go with it, so you can either dawdle over each piece or just let the audio carry you through.
This is exhibition-going, not a hands-on kids' activity, and there's no VR or anything to touch. Sixty to ninety minutes is about right, and the 30-minute timeslot on your ticket is not a suggestion, they mean it, so turn up on time or you risk being turned away.
Food and drink is sold right at the entrance, and there's a shop for merchandise on the way out, which is the natural point to peel a kid away from the gift stand. Lockers cost a bit extra, worth knowing if anyone's carrying a big bag, and anything bigger than A4 isn't allowed in with you anyway. There's no parking on site, but Piccadilly is a five-minute walk, which is the easier way in if you can manage it.
Tickets sell out, and the site is upfront that turning up on spec with a QR code is a gamble. Book ahead, and note there are no refunds if plans change, though you can shift the date up to two weeks out or transfer the ticket to someone else for free.
