What it’s like
A mini role-play town with eleven themed shops and stations, from a vet clinic to a fire station, booked in 80 minute sessions.
This is role play done properly. Kids get loose in a scaled-down town with eleven different areas: a pet clinic, a supermarket, a fire station, a café, a school room, an ice cream van, a picnic area, a city farm, a garage, a theatre and a builder's yard. It's the sort of set-up where a four-year-old can be a vet one minute and running the till in the supermarket the next, and nobody's telling them to hurry up.
Sessions run for 80 minutes and the doors stay locked until five minutes before the start time, which feels a bit strict when you're stood there with a toddler and a coat that won't stay on, but it's so they can reset the town between groups. Off peak entry is £8.25 a child, £9.25 at peak times, and one adult gets in free with a paying child, extra adults are £2.50. That's a fair price for an hour and twenty minutes of proper imaginative play, though it does mean you're watching the clock a bit more than at a soft play where you can just amble off when you're ready.
Booking online is strongly advised rather than compulsory. Walk-ups are welcome if there's space, but places per session are limited, so if you've got your heart set on a particular time slot on a Saturday it's the kind of thing you sort in advance rather than chance it. It's card only across the board, food and drink included, so leave the loose change at home.
There's parking on site if you're driving, and it's a ten-minute walk from Swinton train station if you fancy the train instead. For birthdays, they do exclusive use parties for up to 25 children, 80 minutes of play plus a 30 minute party, and venue hire alone is £225 with catering options on top from £4 to £75.
