What it’s like

A stay and play morning for babies and under-fours, £3 a family, with weekend classes and forest school days for older children.

Happy Hearts is the bit for the littlest ones: a stay and play for babies and children aged four and under, with toys out and creative activities to get stuck into. It's £3 for the family, which is about as cheap as a morning out gets, and it's built for that age group rather than a room that's really aimed at seven-year-olds. You do need to sign up in advance, so it isn't a turn-up-and-see morning.

Beyond that the centre runs its own weekend education programmes and an Islamic Montessori school, plus an Accessible Forest School day where children with additional needs learn through nature. That forest school needs an adult along with each child and the sessions are limited. Worth knowing that a fair number of the programmes here are for adults or specific age groups, 16+ and 18+, so check which one you're booking rather than assuming it's a general family drop-in.

Some of the talks and events are ticketed separately. Early bird prices are £5 for an individual and £8 for a couple, rising to £7 and £12 once the deadline passes, and the early bird window runs until 19 September. Stanmore station is on the Jubilee Line, and buses 142 and 107 stop within a 9 to 15 minute walk of the Wood Lane site. Sessions are advertised as wheelchair accessible and some events have a BSL interpreter.
