What it’s like
An evening walk through York's snickelways and gothic corners, told through its ghost stories.
This is a walking tour, not a sit-down show. You meet outside the West Doors of York Minster, under the twin bell towers, and spend around 60 to 70 minutes being led through the old streets and snickelways while someone tells you the grisly history attached to each one. There's no set age limit and the site is upfront that it's meant to be scary, so know your own kid before you queue up. A confident eight-year-old will probably think it's brilliant. A jumpy four-year-old might spend the walk gripping your leg.
It runs every evening at 7:30pm, rain or shine, and they mean it, the site's own line is that they press on regardless so bring a brolly and dress for the weather rather than hope for the best. There's no need to book, you can just turn up and pay on the night by cash or card, which makes it an easy one to decide on the day rather than plan weeks ahead. £4 for a child and £8 for an adult is fair for over an hour out, and it beats most indoor attractions on price if the forecast cooperates.
It's mostly level ground with some kerbs and a few cobbled stretches, so a pushchair or wheelchair will manage it without much drama, just expect the odd bump. There's no food involved, this is a walk and talk, so eat before you turn up. The only nights it doesn't run are Christmas Eve through Boxing Day and New Year's Eve and Day, otherwise it's on year round.

Plan your visit
Do we need to book?
No, you can just turn up and walk. If you want to guarantee a spot, or you've got a group of more than 15, it's worth calling or emailing ahead.
How much does it cost?
£4 for a child, £6 for a student and £8 for an adult, paid in cash or card on the night.
Is it too scary for kids?
The site is honest that it's meant to be scary and fun, and says it works for both adults and children. Worth thinking about how your own child handles a spooky story before you go.
What happens if it's raining?
It goes ahead regardless, they say they press on into the weather, so bring a coat and an umbrella rather than hope it clears.
Can we bring a pushchair or wheelchair?
It's mostly level ground with a few kerbs and some cobbled sections along the way.
