What it’s like
Kids get a full session of painting, sculpture and mixed media each week, with a proper snack break built in.
This is a proper art class rather than a drop-in craft table. Sessions run for an hour and a half, covering drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media and even digital art, with a new project and new materials each week so nobody's just repeating the same clay pot every term. Aprons are provided, which is just as well since they want your child in clothes they don't mind getting messy.
There are two children's classes to choose from, Creative Explorers at £21 a session and Young Artists at £23, and the age range given is 7 to 16, though they'll consider younger or older kids on a case by case basis. Doors open 10 minutes before class starts, and there's a snack break halfway through with drinks and snacks provided, which is a nice touch for anyone who gets hangry mid-project. Whatever they make, they take home at the end.
Studio 48 isn't just for kids either. There are adult classes at £24 a session, plus Sip & Art workshops at £30 if you fancy a glass of something while you paint, so it's worth knowing about for a parents' night out once the kids are in bed. Birthday parties are on offer too, for ages 8 and up, up to 16 children, running for an hour and fifteen minutes and tailored to whatever the birthday child is into.
One thing to flag: the refund policy has some teeth. If your child misses a session because they're ill or you're away, that's not refundable, since the classes are staffed and planned around full enrolment. You can cancel or reschedule up to 7 days ahead by email for a refund, reschedule or voucher, so the trick is cancelling early rather than hoping for a last-minute out. The studio's up a flight of stairs on the first floor with no lift, worth knowing if that's a factor for anyone in your group.

How much are the children's classes?
Creative Explorers is £21 a session and Young Artists is £23. Both are charged per session rather than a block booking.
What ages are the classes for?
The general range is 7 to 16, though they say they'll sometimes take a child outside that if they think they'd fit the group well.
Can we book just one trial session?
Yes, you book a trial through their registration form at the single-session rate. Full-term bookings get priority though, so a trial spot depends on availability.
What happens if we need to cancel?
