What it’s like

A free outdoor play park with rocking horses, slides, swings and an interactive surfboard for the toddler-to-eight crowd.

This is the sort of park where a two-year-old and an eight-year-old can both find something without one of them getting bored. There are rocking horses and see saws for the smaller ones, proper climbing frames and swings for the ones who want more of a challenge, and an interactive surfboard and rota web that are a bit different from your standard park kit. A play vehicle and 3D spring ride ons round it out, so there's enough variety to fill a morning without you having to referee too much.

It's free to get in and the car park at the end of West Park Drive is free too, which counts for a lot when you're only planning a couple of hours. There's a café on site if you haven't packed snacks, and a picnic area if you have, plus toilets so you're not making a dash for anywhere else. Being outdoors, it's obviously weather-dependent, so a dry day makes far more sense of the trip than a damp one.

The age range on the equipment suits two to eight pretty well; younger toddlers will be happiest on the rocking horses and roundabouts, while the climbing frames and slides are more for the confident five-plus crowd. If you're marking a birthday, the centre can be hired for parties, courses and events.
