What it’s like
A vegan café where you settle in with a hot chocolate and pick from over 300 board games by the hour.
You turn up, order something off the vegan menu, and pull a game off the shelf. The library runs to over 300 titles, from quick family stuff to the bigger social deduction games like Blood on the Clocktower for evenings with older kids or teens who fancy something with a bit more scheming in it. There's no charge at all if you're just there for food, and the gaming cover only kicks in once you actually start playing.
That cover charge is £2.50 a head off-peak, £3 at weekends, and it's charged by the hour with a two-hour minimum, so a family of four settling in on a Saturday evening adds up faster than you'd think. The saving grace is that children nine and under play free and under-16s go at half price, which takes a fair bit of the sting out for anyone with a young family in tow. If you're a regular, the £35 annual membership halves the gaming rate and gets you free play before 6pm on weekdays.
It's an old building, and that shows in the layout: tables are reachable with one step, but the bathrooms are up a set of stairs, so it's worth thinking that through if buggies or mobility are a factor. Under-16s need an adult with them the whole time, which is more of a house rule than a hardship, and dogs are welcome if yours is that sort of dog. Weekday afternoons before 6pm are the quiet, cheap window, evenings and weekends are when it fills up and booking gets recommended rather than optional.
Food is the other half of the offer here, a proper vegan restaurant menu rather than a snacks-only side hustle, and the kitchen runs until 9pm most nights, 7pm on Sundays. You can only eat what you buy on site, allergy exceptions aside.
