What it’s like

A licensed training restaurant on City campus where hospitality students cook and serve you a proper three-course lunch.

This is a working teaching restaurant on the ground floor of City campus at 190 Cathedral Street, open to anyone who fancies booking a table, not just staff and students. Hospitality students do the cooking and the serving, with lecturers keeping an eye on things, and the menus are pitched at a gourmet standard while the prices stay well below what you'd pay for the same three courses elsewhere in town.

It runs lunch service Monday to Thursday from noon, and Friday switches to afternoon tea instead, so if you're after a sit-down lunch pick the earlier half of the week. Booking's recommended rather than optional, and it's easy to see why: you're relying on a working kitchen with a fixed class timetable behind it, not a restaurant that can just add another table.

Christmas lunch is its own event, running from Monday 30 November to Thursday 17 December at £27.50 a head, and for that one you're told booking is essential with availability and payment handled by email rather than online. It's a nice one to book as a group outing given they take group bookings and private functions too, and £27.50 for a three-course Christmas lunch cooked by students under supervision feels like decent value for what you get.

Term dates matter here more than at most restaurants, since the whole thing runs on the college calendar. It's currently set to reopen on Monday 21st September 2026, so that's the date to work around if you're planning ahead.
