What it’s like
Free park with a zip-wire play area, woodland adventure play and football pitches, plus a café for when everyone flags.
There's a proper split here between the toddler bit and the junior play area, so a four-year-old and their older sibling can both find something at their own level. The zip-wire and climbing frame are the obvious draw for the over-fives, while the woodland adventure play area is the sort of thing you let them disappear into for twenty minutes while you sit on a bench.
Beyond the play equipment there's outdoor gym kit, a basketball post, football pitches and a fitness trail, so it's not just swings and slides if you've got a kid who wants to actually run about and use energy rather than just climb things. There's a sensory trail too, which is a nice touch if you've got a child who likes a bit of texture and detail rather than pure speed. Free cycle training gets a mention on their list, which is worth knowing if you're trying to get a wobbly rider more confident somewhere that isn't the road.
It's free to get in and free to park, with two car parks on site plus overflow parking on Barnby Dun Road opposite the play area. Picnics are allowed throughout the park's picnic areas, which is handy because the café only runs Tuesday to Sunday, 9am until 1:30pm, so if you're there on a Monday or turn up mid-afternoon you'll want your own food sorted.
Angling gets a mention too, if that's more your speed than chasing toddlers round a climbing frame.
