What it’s like
An Alice in Wonderland themed tea room serving afternoon tea, breakfast and cakes, with a children's menu on offer.
This is the sort of tea room where the theming does half the entertaining for you. It's Alice in Wonderland dressed up throughout, so there's plenty for a child to look at while you wait for the sandwiches, and there's a children's menu if afternoon tea feels a bit much for younger appetites.
The food itself covers a lot of ground: breakfast, light meals, mains, sandwiches, salads and cakes all made in house, plus loose leaf teas and the odd alcoholic drink for the grown ups. Gluten free afternoon tea is available too, served on gluten free bread with the same fillings and cakes as the standard version.
The catch, and it's a real one, is the building itself. Seven steps lead into the venue and there's no wheelchair access, though there is a ground level accessible toilet once you're in, and baby changing with bottle warming on request. Pram storage is tight as well.
Bookings only hold your table for 15 minutes past the reservation time, which is a faff if the tram's running late. Fancy something for later, they also do cakes to order (Victoria sponge, carrot cake and the like) with 72 hours notice, and gift vouchers if you want to hand the whole day out to someone else.
