What it’s like

Ramps for skateboards, BMX, scooters and inline skates, plus a separate roller rink, open Friday to Sunday only.

This is a ramp park first, roller rink second. On the skatepark side you get proper ramps for skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters and inline skates, with coaching on offer if your kid wants to go from wobbly to confident rather than just turning up and hoping. The roller rink runs separately, a large indoor space for two-hour sessions if skating round in circles is more your speed than dropping in on a ramp.

It's only open three days a week, Friday evening through the weekend, so you can't just decide on a wet Tuesday to pop down. Friday is 4:30pm to 9pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 10am to 4:30pm. A skatepark session is £8.50, the roller rink is £7 for two hours, and skate hire is £2 if you haven't got your own boots or board.

One rule worth knowing before you pack a picnic: no food or drink allowed on the skatepark itself. There's a brand-new snack bar for cold drinks and snacks, and a separate bar doing beer and pool for the grown-ups hanging about. Worth noting too that Saturday over-18s sessions are cancelled at the moment, so check which session you're actually booking into if that's the one you had in mind.

The coaching is the bit that makes this more than just a shed full of ramps. If your kid's new to skating, going in during a session with instruction rather than free skate is probably the smarter first visit.
