What it’s like

Walk an alpaca, feed a baby animal or hunt for treasure with a unicorn for the day, on a working farm just outside Blackpool.

You come here for the animals, and they've built the whole day around getting close to them. Alpaca walking is the headline act, but there's also a pony experience, bottle feeding for the baby animals, and sheep cuddles if your child prefers something that stays still. The unicorn experience adds a treasure hunt into the mix, which is a nice touch if you've got a child who needs a story to go with the animals rather than just a lead rope.

A visit runs to about an hour, which feels about right once you factor in the walking, the feeding and the inevitable five minutes spent deciding which alpaca is the friendliest. It's not a cheap add-on session, mind: the pony experience is £55 and the unicorn one £60, so this isn't a spontaneous stop-off, it's the main event of your day out. If that's too steep, adopting an animal from £25 is a lighter-touch way to feel involved without booking a full experience.

There are crafting activities too, and educational tours and talks if you want the visit to lean more toward learning than lead-walking. The farm also does birthday parties, group bookings and school visits, so it's set up for more than just a family morning out. Parking's on site and it's wheelchair accessible, which helps if you've got a pushchair or a relative who needs level ground.

Open daily from 9am to 5pm, there's no faff about needing to fit into a narrow window. Just don't expect to wander in and grab a same-day alpaca walk without checking what's available first, given how specific and paid-for these experiences are.
