What it’s like

Ramps, bowls and dirt jumps for BMX, skateboards and scooters, with coaching sessions if you want the basics taught properly.

This is a proper urban sports park rather than a rink: BMX riders take on ramps and bowls, skateboarders get both indoor and outdoor parks, and there are dirt jumps for mountain bikes too. Scooters are welcome as well, and if nobody in your house has ever dropped into a bowl before, the beginner coaching sessions are there to stop that first go being a disaster.

Sessions are priced by length rather than by age. A weekend beginner session is £8, three hours will set you back £13.50, and if you want to make a full day of it that's £17.50. If someone wants proper one-to-one attention, coaching is £30. None of that is pocket-money pricing, but a three-hour session is a decent chunk of a day out and beats paying for an hour somewhere else and then queuing for the good ramps.

Hours shift with the school calendar. In term time it's 4pm to 7pm on weekdays (Mondays run to 8pm), and 12pm to 7pm at weekends. School holidays open things up a bit, with weekdays starting at 1pm and weekends staying at 12pm to 7pm, following the Blackburn schools' holiday dates. Booking is required, so this isn't a turn-up-and-see-what's-on kind of visit.

There's a proper food setup too, not just a vending machine: an on-site restaurant and bar doing tacos, gourmet burgers, wood-fired pizzas, loaded fries and salads, served weekdays 4pm to 7pm and weekends 1pm to 6pm. In summer the terrace bar opens as well, which is a nice touch if you're the one stood watching rather than riding. Parking is free, which takes one cost off the list at least.
