What it’s like

A free park with a zip line, five-way swing and sensory play equipment, plus a proper café for coffee afterwards.

The play area is doing most of the work here: a zip line, a five-way swing and gym equipment alongside balancing and climbing bits, plus accessible and sensory learning equipment for kids who need something calmer. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to add to a day without checking your bank balance first.

Opening hours shift with the seasons. Weekdays it's open from 7:40am, weekends from 8:10am, and closing time stretches out to 9pm through May, June and July, so you've got summer evenings to play with. February closes at 5pm, which is worth knowing if you're planning a late afternoon visit in the colder months.

Queen's Park Cafe, run by Olivia's Coffee and Bakery, is open 9am to 4pm daily if you fancy a proper coffee rather than a flask from the car. Picnics are allowed too. Parking is pay and display at Granby Street Car Park nearby, which is a small sting on a free day out but at least it's close.

One thing to flag: the play area is due to close for improvement work from January 2026, and the New Street entrance closes with it. If you're planning a visit around then, it's the play equipment that'll be affected, not the whole park.
