What it’s like
A free picnic spot with accessible paths, free parking and dogs welcome, open longer hours through the summer.
There's no entry fee here, which makes it an easy one to add to the list when you want an outdoor stop without spending anything. The site's got a picnic area and a free car park right on site, so you can turn up, unload the sandwiches and find a spot.
The paths are surfaced and wheelchair accessible, though the site itself says the inclines need some assistance getting up and down. Dogs are welcome too, which is handy if the walk's as much for the dog as anyone else.
One genuine catch: there's a 2m height barrier at the entrance, so anything taller than that, think a campervan or a roof box setup, won't get through. Worth bearing in mind before you plan the visit around it rather than finding out at the gate.
Opening hours shift with the seasons. It's 9am to 4pm October through March, then stretches out to 9am to 7pm from April to September, giving you a proper long summer evening for a picnic without rushing.
