What it’s like
Tech-tracked mini golf with glowing balls, a giant beer pong hole and a leaderboard the kids will want to top.
This isn't the crazy golf with a windmill and a bit of astroturf. Puttshack's courses are tech-infused, so your ball's tracked automatically and the scores go straight up on a leaderboard, which turns a round into a proper competition rather than a wander round nine holes. There's a giant Beer Pong hole, a Puttman ghost-chasing game and a Ring of Fire challenge, all under one roof, so a wet Tuesday is no bother.
A round is 9 holes and takes about half an hour, though it can stretch if the course is busy. Each hole takes up to six players, so if your group's bigger than that you'll be leapfrogging the group ahead rather than all playing together. It's aimed at seven and up, which tracks, this is more a game for kids who can actually hold a putter with intent than one for toddlers wanting to bash a ball around.
Booking online is recommended rather than compulsory, and worth doing if you're going at a weekend or evening. Turn up ten minutes before your slot if you're playing straight off, or an hour before if you fancy eating first, the restaurant does shareables, flatbreads and salads with vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options covered. One faff to flag: if your group isn't ready within ten minutes of the tee time, the booking can get cancelled or bumped, so don't dawdle in the car park.
Parking is the other bit that stings slightly, it's chargeable at the nearby Palace or Charter car parks, or the Sutton car park a five-minute walk off. If you're coming by train, Watford High Street Overground is about ten minutes on foot. Under-18s can't stay past 7pm, and under-12s can't be left without an adult, worth knowing if you're dropping off a group of older kids for the evening.

How much does it cost?
Prices aren't something we can quote here, but booking online lets you see the cost for your slot before you commit.
Do we need to book?
Walk-ins are allowed but booking online is recommended, especially at peak times, since it secures your spot on the course.
How long does a round take?
Around 30 minutes for 9 holes, a bit longer if the course is busy or your group's slow.
What age is it suitable for?
It's set up for seven and older. Under-12s need to stay with an adult throughout.
Is there food?
Yes, a full restaurant and bar with shareables, flatbreads, salads and handhelds, plus vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options.
Can we bring a birthday cake?
Only if you've booked a party package, and there's a £15 fee. It has to be completely nut-free with an ingredient list, since the venue doesn't allow nuts.
Is there parking?
Nothing on site that's free. The Palace and Charter car parks nearby are chargeable, and there's a Sutton car park a five-minute walk away too.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
The venue itself is accessible, but some holes and courses aren't. It's worth calling ahead so they can plan your round around it.
How many people can play together?
Up to six per hole. Bigger groups get split across holes just ahead of or behind each other.
Can we bring the dog?
Only assistance and guide dogs are allowed, no other pets.
