What it’s like

An indoor pool with an aquaslide, splashpad and soft play, plus baby and toddler swimming lessons.

The aquaslide is the bit your seven-year-old will bring up in the car home, but there's plenty either side of it. The splashpad suits the smaller ones who aren't ready for the big slide, and there's soft play and an outdoor playground too, so a rainy Tuesday doesn't have to mean four hours indoors with nothing to do.

Babies and toddlers get their own swimming lessons, and there's a school-age programme too, which makes this more than a one-off splash session if you're after something regular. Opening hours are generous on weekdays, running from half six in the morning right up past 9pm Monday to Thursday, though weekends are shorter, 8am to 6pm, so plan around that if you're a lie-in family.

Lockers are there for your stuff, but you'll want to bring your own padlock. They do sell them on site for £6 if you forget, which feels like the kind of thing you only learn once. The café covers you for a post-swim snack, and the accessible toilet and wheelchair access mean it's not just an afterthought for anyone who needs it.

Given the mix of aquaslide, splashpad, soft play and an outdoor playground, this isn't a quick dip. Budget a proper couple of hours if the kids are getting the full run of it, longer if you've booked into a lesson beforehand or after.
