What it’s like
Two hours at a table painting your own mug, plate or novelty piece, with parties in a Sealife-themed room.
You pick a piece of ceramic, a mug, a plate, a bowl or something more novelty, and settle in for two hours of painting it however you like. Acrylic pieces go home with you the same day, but if you fancy underglaze the colours are properly fired in a kiln afterwards, which means a week's wait before you can collect it. That's a bit of a faff if you want an instant souvenir, but the underglaze finish is the one that actually looks like proper pottery rather than a school craft project.
It suits a decent age range, from five up to adults, so it works as easily for a quiet grandparent-and-grandchild afternoon as it does for a group of mates fancying something different from the pub. Two hours is enough time to actually finish a piece rather than rush it, and sessions run most days, Tuesday to Sunday, though it's shut on Mondays.
Birthday parties happen in the themed Sealife Room, which takes 10 to 14 guests, or you can spill into the main studio for up to 30. It works out at £20 a head, which includes a £12 item to paint, and you get a party host for an hour and a half. Painting fills the first hour, then there's time left for food and cake, and you're free to bring your own snacks or get something delivered from the village café or a local pizza place.
Weekend party slots run Saturday and Sunday, either 11:30 to 1pm or 2 to 3:30pm, and booking ahead is genuinely necessary here rather than a nice-to-have, so don't turn up on spec expecting a free table.
