What it’s like

Wander among free flying exotic birds, reptiles and birds of prey, with a pre-school activity area and outdoor sand pit for the smaller ones.

The jungle-like setting is the thing to see here: exotic birds flying free overhead, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and fish all in one space, with feeding sessions to catch if you time it right. The birds of prey aviaries run daily encounters and talks, and that's the bit to save for the middle of your visit when everyone needs sitting down for a few minutes anyway.

Younger children get their own indoor activity area built for pre-school age, with an outdoor sand pit, noughts and crosses and bean bag toss thrown in. There's also a wild bird hide with binoculars if you fancy a quieter twenty minutes watching Britain's actual wild ducks and birds rather than the exotic ones. Seasonal hunts and trails turn up around Easter and Halloween, which gives you a reason to go back.

Entry is £5, with under 1s free, and it's open 9am to 5pm with last entry at 4pm, so you've got a decent stretch of the day even if you arrive after lunch. There's no need to book, you just turn up. Dogs are welcome across the whole site with water bowls out.

Food-wise there's a café, deli and a restaurant on site, and parking is free with plenty of space including disabled bays. Wheelchair and pushchair access is fine across the centre, though there's only one wheelchair available on site and it's first come first served if you need to borrow one.
