What it’s like
Woodland trails, mountain bike routes and gritstone crags for scrambling, walking or running off with the dog.
This is woodland for doing things in rather than just looking at. There's a marked two-mile trail that takes about an hour even at dog-walking pace, proper downhill mountain bike routes and woodland single-track for anyone who wants a bit of speed, and gritstone crags where kids old enough to climb can have a go at bouldering. It's free to park, which is one less thing to think about, and the site says the trails are demanding and free-flowing rather than a gentle stroll.
Don't expect a smooth pushchair route. There are no tarmacked paths anywhere and no wheelchair accessible entrance, so a robust all-terrain buggy is the minimum if you're bringing a little one who isn't walking yet. That same lack of paths is exactly what makes it good for mountain biking, so it's a straight trade-off depending on what you're there for.
There's no food on site and no toilets either, both worth sorting before you set off rather than halfway round. McDonald's in Bramley is two minutes away by car if you need something quick, and there are proper sit-down options in Pudsey and Farsley if you fancy making a longer day of it. Dogs are allowed on and off the lead with waste bins dotted about.
There's no booking system, you just turn up, park at the Wood Lane entrance or find on-street parking nearby, and head in.
