What it’s like
A free gallery to wander round exhibitions and degree shows, with lectures and events on some days.
This is a proper look-round gallery rather than a hands-on activity space, so it suits kids who'll happily wander and look rather than ones who need something to press or climb on. The site lists exhibitions and degree shows as the main thing to see, plus events and lectures if you time your visit right. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy add-on to a Sheffield day rather than something you plan the whole day around.
It's open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, so no Sundays and no evening slots if you're working around nap times or after-school hours. There's no booking system listed. Being indoors, it's a solid option if the weather's turned, though the walk round is probably shorter than a soft play session, more a stop of half an hour or so than a half-day out.
Wheelchair access is there, with an accessible toilet on site, and there's parking and public transport links nearby if you're not driving. It's a quiet sort of visit rather than a noisy one, which is either exactly what you want after a busy morning or a bit of a mismatch if your kids are wound up and need to move.
