What it’s like

A sports hall turned roller rink on Sundays, with a slower family session and a faster one for confident skaters and adults.

Skates go on and the sports hall becomes a rink for a couple of hours on a Sunday, disco lights and games included. Beginners are properly catered for here, nobody expects you to already know how to skate, and hire skates are £1.50 a pair if you haven't got your own.

There are two sessions and they're genuinely different in character. The 3pm to 4:30pm family slot is the slower, gentler one, which makes it the obvious choice if you've got a younger child or anyone wobbly on wheels. The 5pm to 6:30pm session is pitched at faster skaters and over-13s, so it's less of a fit if you're bringing a first-timer who's still holding the barrier.

Entry is £6 a skater, with skate hire and safety gear hire on top at £1.50 and £1 respectively, so budget a bit more than the headline price once everyone's kitted out. Birthday parties run from £90 for 10 skaters in the family session, with music requests taken in advance and the birthday child getting a shout-out and a small gift during the disco. Parking's free at the leisure centre and there's disabled parking close to the building, and while you can usually just turn up, December to March gets busy enough that booking ahead is the safer bet.

Plan your visit

Do we need our own skates?

No, hire is available for £1.50 a pair and beginners are welcome. Safety equipment hire is £1 on top if you want it.

How much does it cost?

£6 entry per skater, plus £1.50 for skate hire and £1 for safety gear if you need them.

Which session suits a younger child?

The 3pm to 4:30pm family session is the slower-paced one and best for beginners. The 5pm to 6:30pm slot is aimed at faster skaters and over-13s.

Do we need to book ahead?

Walk-ups are normally fine, but December to March gets busier so booking in advance is worth doing then.

What's included in a birthday party?

Parties start at £90 for 10 skaters and include music and a Happy Birthday moment on the rink, with the birthday child getting a small gift and card. Extra skaters are £6 each up to 25.
