What it’s like
Free riverside park with a play area, open grass for sport and paths to run along, open from 8am until dusk.
There's no entry fee here, which makes it an easy yes on a Saturday morning when you can't face spending £30 before anyone's even had a go on a slide. The play park is the obvious pull, plus riverside paths if you've got a scooter or a dog that needs walking, and a decent stretch of grass if the kids fancy football or just want to lie down and complain about being tired.
Ages go up to 13 on the site's own listing, so this isn't just a toddler-and-swings job. The older ones can kick a ball about on the grass while you keep half an eye on a younger sibling at the play park, which is about as close to a win-win as a free park gets.
It's open from 8am on weekdays and half eight at weekends, right through until dusk, so you've got the whole day if the weather holds. The cafe kiosk runs 9 to 5 and does Marshfield Farm ice cream and proper barista coffee, and they've picked up a Bristol Eating Better Award for it, which is a nicer surprise than you'd expect from a park cafe.
Parking isn't free, mind. It's £1 for the first hour up to £3 for up to five hours, charged 9am to 6pm daily across the two car parks. Just don't turn up on the 25th of December expecting to park, the car parks are shut that day.
