What it’s like

A retro arcade bar with Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart and dance mats, but it's an 18+ venue except for one Sunday slot for kids.

This one's a bit different from your usual family listing, and it's important to say why straight away: NQ64 is an adults bar for almost every session on the week. Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, Time Crisis and dance mats fill three floors, plus free-to-play consoles if you fancy a rest from feeding the machines. It sounds like a proper afternoon for a ten-year-old, and it would be, if under-18s were allowed in at most times.

The one window that works for families is Sunday, 11am to 3pm, when under-18s can get in. Outside that slot it's strictly over-18s, and they mean it, ID has to be a physical passport or driving licence, no photos on your phone. So if you're planning a visit with the kids, that four-hour Sunday gap is the whole plan, not a bonus.

Games run on tokens rather than coins: £9.50 for 15 or £13 for 25, with most games taking one or two tokens a go, which adds up fast if you've got a couple of kids working through Time Crisis. Entry itself is free, so you're only really paying for what you play. There's no proper food, just crisps and sweet snacks at the bar, so eat before you come or plan to head off for lunch after.

Worth knowing before you get the bus into town: the venue is across three levels and isn't wheelchair accessible. Card and cash are both fine at the bar, at least that bit's straightforward.
