What it’s like
Have a go at throwing pots on the wheel or hand-building with clay, with parties laid on for groups.
This one's about getting your hands into clay rather than watching someone else do it. You can try wheel throwing, which is the one everyone pictures when they think of pottery, or hand-building, which is a slower, more forgiving way in if the wheel looks like too much of a wrestle.
Parties are clearly a big part of what they do. A wheel session takes up to 8 people, hand-building stretches to 15, and both run for two hours. It starts at £190 for up to 5 participants and £24 for each extra person after that, which is a decent shout for a birthday or a hen do that wants something a bit different from the usual.
Parking's straightforward: free on-street on Ellesmere Crescent, with extra space at Hartley Business Centre if that's full. Two hours at a wheel is longer than it sounds once you're covered in slip and trying to centre the clay for the third time, so go in expecting a proper session rather than a quick dabble.
