Create! Art School
WHERE
Nottingham
What it’s like
Art classes and an online art hub where you follow along with taught lessons, sketchbook in hand, from home or in person.
This one's less about turning up to a studio and more about learning to draw and paint properly, either face to face or through an online membership you dip into whenever you've got the time. The in-person classes are the traditional route. The Art Hub is the flexible one: a monthly subscription that unlocks a stack of taught courses you work through at your own pace, with new artist workshops and skills classes added each month.
The teaching style is aimed squarely at beginners who just want to be shown what to do and copy it. The site says the same method's been used with students from age 5 right up to 75, so it's less about talent and more about being willing to sit down and practice. If you're on the fence, there are a few short taster courses you can try before committing, including a five-minute doodles one that's a decent way to see if the teaching style clicks with you.
Feedback is the bit worth knowing about before you sign up. In the live sessions you get comments on the actual piece you're working on that day, and outside of those there's a private Facebook community where the tutor answers questions and looks at what you've painted or drawn. It's not a passive video library, which is the whole point, but it does mean you get more out of it if you actually post your work rather than just watching.
The membership has no ongoing contract. The one catch: if you cancel and rejoin later, you pay whatever the going rate is by then, not your old price.

Is this only for adults?
The classes are pitched at adults, though the site mentions the same teaching method has been used with students from 5 to 75, so it isn't a strict adults-only setup.
Can I try it before I commit to a membership?
Yes, there are a few short taster courses free to access, including a five elements of art mini course and a five minute doodles one.
Do I get any actual feedback on my work?
In live sessions you get feedback on what you're working on that day, and outside of that there's a private Facebook group where the tutor comments on your drawings and paintings.
How does cancelling the membership work?
There's no ongoing contract so you can cancel any time. If you rejoin later though, you'll pay whatever the standard rate is at that point, not your old price.
