What it’s like
Free tree trail walks through 800-plus trees on flat paths, right by Nottingham's tram stops.
The main thing here is wandering the Arboretum Tree Trail, spotting some of the 800-plus trees, a fair few of them planted back in the 19th century. There's no entry charge, and the paths are surfaced right through the park, which makes it easy going with a buggy or a wheelchair.
Free guided health walks run too, if you want more than a wander and fancy joining a group. Dogs are welcome as long as they're kept under control, so it's not a bad spot for a dog-plus-kids outing without any lead drama.
The café only opens seasonally, so don't bank on it being there every visit. There's no toilet provision on site at all right now, which is the one you'll want to plan around properly with small kids.
Getting there without a car is easy: the NET Tram runs along Waverley Street with a stop about 150m from the entrance. Parking itself is limited to on street spaces, so the tram's the better bet if you can manage it.
