WHAT IT’S LIKE

A 40-acre wildflower farm near Nottingham with a kids' play area, wildlife ponds and a tearoom for cake after the walk.

Naturescape is a working wildflower farm in Langar, Nottinghamshire, growing around 200 species of native British wildflowers across a 3-acre wildlife garden and 40 acres of seed-production fields. Families can wander the gardens and two wildlife ponds, let kids loose in the on-site children's play area, and browse the plant shop for pots, herbs, roses and climbers. It's a low-key, mostly outdoor visit that works well for a leisurely half-day out with young children who like ponds and plants to look at rather than rides. The Tea Room is the other big draw for parents, homemade cakes, sandwiches made to order, hot food, teas, coffees, ice creams and soft drinks, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There's wheelchair access to the Tea Room via ramps on two sides, though there are no disabled toilets. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Reviewers mention watching parachutists drop in from the neighbouring Langar airfield while eating in the tearoom. Hot food is served till 1.30pm, with other food and hot drinks available up to an hour before closing, so it's worth timing a visit for lunch rather than turning up late afternoon. The centre is closed on Mondays (except Bank Holidays), open Tuesday to Saturday 9am–4pm and Sunday/Bank Holidays 10am–4pm. To order food, visitors are asked to call ahead on 01949 869705.
